The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Institute as a Research Assistant in our interdisciplinary research team at the Virtual Environments Lab at STARC. The successful candidate will primarily work in the cultural HERitage and Immersive technologies for innovation FORGE (HERIFORGE) project funded by EU HORIZON EUROPE framework.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the support of the contribution of the Virtual Environments Lab to the project which involves the creation of VR-enabled workflows of scan-to-BIM operations and data management involving data conversion, processing and interoperability across platforms and software. The candidate will collaborate with software engineers and 3D heritage documentation specialists to support data collection, processing, transformation, digital tools’ development, including setting up user evaluation sessions.
The period of the appointment will be for a duration of two years with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds. An internationally competitive remuneration package will be offered, which is commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.
Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:
- Provide support in interactive 3D data visualisation.
- Provide support in conducting data collection and analysis related to cultural & architectural heritage.
- Assist in stakeholder engagement, participating in meetings and workshops to help in collecting stakeholders’ feedback.
- Assist in the development of innovation frameworks, such as living labs to connect stakeholders around a common strategy and action plan.
- Help in preparing project reports, contributing to scientific publications.
- Actively participate in an interdisciplinary and international research team.
- Technical support of the Virtual Environments Lab.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in computer graphics, modelling and visualisation related fields, including architecture, animation, engineering.
- Experience in design and/or the development of VR applications, 3D modelling and interactive visualisation.
- Experience in R&I projects and deliverables.
- Academic paper writing.
- 1-year relevant experience will be considered an advantage
- Relevant experience with architecture heritage modelling and 3D spatial data processing
- Good analytical and research skills
- Excellent knowledge of the English language, both verbal and writing
- Demonstrated development ability, outstanding organizational, analytical, problem solving and communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to adopt to a multicultural/multinational environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic understanding and operation of scripting/programming in real-time rendering environments (such as Unity3D or Unreal engine)

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a qualified and motivated individual to join the Institute as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Medical Imaging Artificial Intelligence at CaSToRC. The successful candidate will conduct research in the application of existing and novel Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning methods in cancer research.
In general, the successful candidate is expected to:
- Conduct research to further develop research skills and competencies, and publishing novel and significant results in selective peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
- Contribute to all aspects of sponsored Research, Innovation and/or Development projects (including conducting research, co-authoring publications, implementing deliverables, reporting activities, dissemination activities, etc).
- Contribute to new grant proposals preparation.
More specifically, the successful candidate will contribute to research and development activities of the Agora 3.0 critical infrastructure project, in collaboration with the German Oncology Centre and several other research and industry partners in Cyprus. The project aims to establish a clinical trial unit at the German Oncology Centre, which will produce high quality medical imaging data from prostate cancer patients. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will work closely with the GOC and a research team from the University of Cyprus to develop AI methods that will utilize medical imaging data to estimate the Gleason score and tumor stiffness through medical imaging.
The initial appointment is for a fixed-term period until the 30th December 2026, with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and the availability of funds. An internationally competitive remuneration package will be offered, which is commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.
Project specific responsibilities:
- Perform thorough literature review of the current trends and advancements in the use of AI in the medical imaging field and prostate cancer research.
- Develop multimodal AI models which utilize high quality medical imaging and medical parameters data produced at the German Oncology Centre from prostate cancer patients to estimate Gleason score and tumor stiffness.
General Responsibilities:
- Conduct research, innovation and development activities based on project requirements.
- Collect and analyze data as stipulated by project specifications and supervision.
- Write research papers in collaboration with the line manager and other peers.
- Present results at conferences and meetings and contribute to journal publications.
- Contribute to research proposal preparation, scientific reporting, and project management.

The candidate will pursue research on modelling and simulations for the in-silico design of materials, with a strong focus on environmental sustainability and collaboration with industry. The successful candidate will be involved in the nationally (RIF) funded projects, AgReCOMPOSITES and Nano-SuperCaps. The selected candidate is expected to lead co-development projects and provide consultations/trainings to support the European Digital Innovation Hub of Cyprus (DiGiNN).
In general, the Associate Research Scientist is expected to:
- Contribute to all aspects of sponsored Research, Innovation and/or Development projects (including conducting research, co-authoring publications, implementing deliverables, reporting activities, dissemination activities, etc.).
- Participate in new grant proposals (including the possibility of leading proposals/projects as PI or co-PI).
- Teach courses at the CyI Graduate School to gain teaching experience and engage graduate students in research projects.
More specifically, in the context of the AgReCOMPOSITES and Nano-SuperCaps projects, the successful candidate is expected to be highly involved in the design, development and application of mathematical and computational modelling and simulation methods to investigate microscale phenomena in engineering applications and address challenges relevant to the Green Transition, such as environmentally sustainable materials and green tech (eg. carbon capture, energy storage, catalysis). The successful candidate is expected to conduct cross-disciplinary, application-driven research, collaborate with industrial partners and design workflows that combine mathematical modelling such as multi-scale modelling, asymptotic techniques, uncertainty quantification and Bayesian approaches, atomistic simulations and continuum modelling such as finite elements or CFD. In the context of activities supporting the DiGiNN project, the successful candidate will interact with industrial and public sector organisations, perform needs assessments, and design or deliver consultations, trainings and projects that showcase the potential of advanced digital technologies to the respective stakeholders.
In addition, the successful candidate is expected to actively pursue funding opportunities, contribute to proposal preparation and be involved in scientific publications.

Job Specific Responsibilities:
- Develop multi-scale methods, atomistic and continuum models and simulations for complex sustainable materials or microscale processes in green technology.

Required Qualifications
- A PhD degree in Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science or relevant disciplines.
- Strong background in in-silico material design and multi-scale modelling.
- Strong track record in cross-disciplinary research and collaboration with industry.
- Previous experience in at least two of the following areas: multi-scale modelling, statistical (Bayesian) methods for Uncertainty Quantification, asymptotic methods related to solid/fluid mechanics, molecular dynamics simulations for complex molecular systems, Finite Element Methods, HPC.
- An understanding of concepts related to green materials and green tech such as circular materials, waste valorisation, energy storage, carbon-capture and utilisation.
- Previous experience in collaborating with experimentalists from Mechanical or Chemical Engineering and Material Science disciplines.
- A growing publication record with at least some publications in which the ARS is the first or corresponding author.
- A growing experience contributing to sponsored research projects.
- Growing mentoring capabilities.
- Independent initiative in conjunction with effective teamwork.

More specifically, in the context of the AgReCOMPOSITES and Nano-SuperCaps projects, the successful candidate is expected to be highly involved in the design, development and application of mathematical and computational modelling and simulation methods to investigate microscale phenomena in engineering applications and address challenges relevant to the Green Transition, such as environmentally sustainable materials and green tech (eg. carbon capture, energy storage, catalysis). The successful candidate is expected to conduct cross-disciplinary, application-driven research, collaborate with industrial partners and design workflows that combine mathematical modelling such as multi-scale modelling, asymptotic techniques, uncertainty quantification and Bayesian approaches, atomistic simulations and continuum modelling such as finite elements or CFD. The project aims to advance, advance emission inventories for current and future aircraft technologies, improving pollution dispersion models.

- Contributes to data analyses and assessments at local and regional scales related to environmental scenarios.
- Initiates and sustains high-level collaborative projects with leading research institutions that conduct research in areas related to their respective fields.
- Communicating the results and implications of research conducted at CyI at all levels, including the academic community, the public at large and decision makers
- Collaborating in an interdisciplinary and international research environment
General Responsibilities:
- Conduct research, innovation and development activities based on project requirements.
- Collect and analyse data as stipulated by project specifications and supervision.
- Write research papers in collaboration with the line manager and other peers.
- Present results at conferences and meetings and contribute to journal publications.
- Contribute to research proposal preparation, scientific reporting, and project management.
- Provide mentoring and guidance to Graduate Research Fellows and Research Engineers, if applicable.
- Contribute to dissemination activities (such as public seminars or targeted talks), promoting external recognition at the national and international levels.
- Contribute to planning and organization of Center-level and Institute-level internal and external events (such as workshops, conferences) to promote external recognition at the national and international levels.
- Provide independent input related to research directions, methodologies, etc
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, Environmental sciences and/or technology or related field.
- Research experience in environmental data analysis and modelling.
- Strong expertise in atmospheric dispersion/composition model
