The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated Researcher to join the Institute’s CaSToRC Centre on a full-time or part-time basis for its premises at Athalassas Campus.
The candidate will pursue research in the context of the nationally (RIF) funded projects ASPERIUM and BIOLEA, focusing on the development and application as well of computational methods and simulations for materials with energy and textile applications respectively.
The candidate is expected to be highly involved in the development and application as well of ab-initio and atomistic simulation methodologies and continuum mechanics for complex nanostructured materials. They will also develop algorithms and codes for simulations/data analytics methodologies in engineering applications.
Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:
1. Develop ab-initio, atomistic simulation and/or continuum (finite element methods) methodologies for complex nanostructured materials.
2. Developing algorithms and codes for simulations/data analytics in engineering applications.
3. Performing large-scale computations in computational engineering.
4. Writing proposals for accessing computational resources.
Position Specific Required Qualifications:
· PhD degree in Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science or relevant disciplines.
· Previous experience in ab-initio calculations and/or molecular simulations for complex molecular systems.
Position Specific Preferred Qualifications:
· Previous experience in at least two of the following areas: ab-initio calculations, multi-scale modelling, molecular dynamics, statistical methods, data analytics, and stochastic (Monte Carlo) methods.
· Publications in high-impact factor journals.
· Participation in top international scientific conferences

The successful candidate will pursue Research & Development (R&D) in the areas of Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Focus will be placed on applications of these technologies in cybersecurity and anomaly detection in encrypted network data.
The successful candidates will join for 100% of their time the research team implementing the project DAEMON-AI: Detection and Active Elimination of Malicious anomalies through Ongoing Network, sensor, and behavioral analysis with AI.
The rank of the position will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and experience (Junior Specialised Research Technical Scientist, Specialised Research Technical Scientist or Senior Specialised Research Technical Scientist as per relevant job descriptions).
Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:
· Support research and development of novel methods relevant to ML, AI and big data analytics.
· Applications of advanced technologies in cybersecurity, anomaly detection, encrypted networks, etc.
· Close collaboration with cross-functional teams, such as researchers, product managers, backend engineers, data scientists.
· Participation and leading support projects with academia/industry/public sector.
· Involvement in training and user-support events.
· Contribution to project reports and deliverables.
· Contribution to scientific publications, presentations in scientific conferences and participation in outreach events.

The Water Department investigates hydrologic and ecosystems processes and tests agro-ecosystems innovations and management practices through field observations, experimental research and modelling, in cooperation with various stakeholders in Cyprus and abroad.
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the Horizon Europe Soil Mission projects of the Water Department, with a special focus on the EUROSION Project ("European Soil Erosion Monitoring and Modelling Network for Sustainable Agricultural Land Management"). This project is a cooperation of 24 research partners from EU and associated countries, coordinated by Wageningen University. In the framework of the EUROSION project we will establish long-term wind and water erosion monitoring nodes in Cyprus.
Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:
· Set up and maintain an European wind erosion monitoring node in Cyprus (sediment traps, saltiphone, saltation sensors, dust emission flux sensors, soil moisture sensors, 2D sonic anemometers, meteorological sensors)
· Sediment, soil and vegetation sampling and laboratory analysis
· Support water erosion monitoring activities
Position Specific Required Qualifications:
· PhD in Earth, Environmental, or Agricultural Sciences
· Proven experience in experimental field research on wind or water erosion
· Proven experience in soil laboratory analysis
· Proven experience in processing and analyzing large datasets
· Driver's license

· Excellent knowledge in statistical design and analysis
· Skills in programming (e.g., R, Python, Javascript, C, Fortran)

The successful candidate will be responsible to carry out the operation, maintenance and development of the Monitoring and Control System at the PROTEAS Concentrated Solar Power Facility. Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:

· Support the development and maintenance process control philosophies, P&IDs, functional specifications, and automation architecture.
· Select and configure sensors, actuators, PLCs, SCADA, and other control equipment suited to harsh environments.
· Support design and development of electrical systems for prototype and demonstration facilities.
· Work closely with process, thermal, and mechanical engineers to figure out how to make novel equipment operate safely, reliably, and effectively.
· Ensure design process considers safety, reliability, maintainability, operability, and cost effectiveness.
· Take an active role in commissioning, troubleshooting, and operational support of plant systems.
Position Specific Required Qualifications:
• A Bachelor degree in a relevant field of science or engineering (i.e. Electrical/Electronic engineering and/or Computer engineering)
• Familiarity with LabView software
• Familiarity with software interlocks systems
Position Specific Desired Qualifications:
• A Master degree in a relevant field of science or engineering will be considered an advantage
• Previous research support experience will be considered an advantage
• 2+ years’ experience in instrumentation, automation, and electrical systems design, ideally in power stations, processing plants, or other research / industrial facilities.
• Experience in commissioning and operation of control systems in mechanical, optical, steam and/or material handling processes.

The successful candidate will work with the Medical Physics group within the PERSPECT project and will be responsible to support and organize the development of patient-specific new tomographic reconstruction techniques.
The PERSPECT project aims to enhance the accuracy of Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) imaging in the detection of small lesions and brain damage through personalized tomographic techniques that accurately describe the physical processes of photon scattering and attenuation in relation to the patient’s anatomy.
Furthermore, the successful candidate will validate the proposed methodology through extensive simulation and experimental studies to ensure robustness and reliability in clinical settings and develop specific software algorithms by using state of the art programming tools running on HPC.
Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:
The selected candidate will be required to organize clinical data and to support with the installation of the developed programming code on GPU based HPC farms.
Position Specific Required Qualifications:
· PhD degree in a relevant field of science or engineering (Medical Physics / Computer Engineering / Electrical-Electronic Engineering).
· Experience in analytic, stochastic or iterative tomographic image reconstruction algorithms applied in Emission Tomography with ionizing or non-ionizing radiation.
· Proven technical ability to adopt theoretical solutions and to develop computer code to solve tomographic inversion problems.
· Experience with High Performance Computing (HPC).
Position Preferred Qualifications:
· Ability to work with Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) clusters.
· Knowledge of the GEANT4/GATE Monte Carlo simulation software.
· AI knowledge in machine learning with Artificial Neural Networks.
· Familiarity with analysis of multi-dimensional data sets.
· Familiarity with design and implementation of simple Data Acquisition Systems (DAQs) based on commercially available software packages (LabVIEW).

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated Researcher to join the Institute’s EEWRC Centre on a full-time basis (100% FTE) for its premises at Athalassas Campus.
The successful candidate will work with the Medical Physics group within the PERSPECT project and will be responsible to support and organize the development of patient-specific new tomographic reconstruction techniques.
The PERSPECT project aims to enhance the accuracy of Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) imaging in the detection of small lesions and brain damage through personalized tomographic techniques that accurately describe the physical processes of photon scattering and attenuation in relation to the patient’s anatomy.
Furthermore, the successful candidate will validate the proposed methodology through extensive simulation and experimental studies to ensure robustness and reliability in clinical settings and develop specific software algorithms by using state of the art programming tools running on HPC.
Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:
The selected candidate will be required to organize clinical data and to support with the installation of the developed programming code on GPU based HPC farms.
Position Specific Required Qualifications:
· PhD degree in a relevant field of science or engineering (Medical Physics / Computer Engineering / Electrical-Electronic Engineering).
· Experience in analytic, stochastic or iterative tomographic image reconstruction algorithms applied in Emission Tomography with ionizing or non-ionizing radiation.
· Proven technical ability to adopt theoretical solutions and to develop computer code to solve tomographic inversion problems.
· Experience with High Performance Computing (HPC).
Position Preferred Qualifications:
· Ability to work with Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) clusters.
· Knowledge of the GEANT4/GATE Monte Carlo simulation software.
· AI knowledge in machine learning with Artificial Neural Networks.
· Familiarity with analysis of multi-dimensional data sets.
· Familiarity with design and implementation of simple Data Acquisition Systems (DAQs) based on commercially available software packages (LabVIEW).
· Experience of supporting scientific research projects.
· Knowledge of the Greek language will be considered an advantage.

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Institute’s PROTEAS Research Facility of the EEWRC on a full-time basis (100% FTE) for its premises at Pentakomo Campus (Limassol).
The successful candidate is expected to support and research activities within EU-funded projects hosted at the PROTEAS research facility, focusing on concentrated solar power (CSP), thermal energy storage (TES), and polygeneration systems. The work will involve both experimental activities (instrumentation, preparation of the experimental setup, sampling and support on testing) as well as data-oriented tasks (data post-treatment, analysis).
Particularly, the Research Technical Assistant will be engaged in the TransNational Accesses (TNA) activities related to i) operation and optimization of CSP and TES systems, ii) integration of solar energy with desalination and brine treatment processes, and iii) hybrid renewable energy systems and storage technologies.
More specifically the successful candidate will work on TNA activities within the EU funded project RISEnergy. Furthermore, the successful candidate will be involved in tasks such as data collection, performance evaluation of pilot systems and concepts, and support in the development of technical reports.
Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:
· Collection, processing, and analysis of experimental data.
· Support in the preparation of reports, and technical documentation.
· Support in dissemination and outreach activities.
· Daily maintenance of the scientific equipment of the PROTEAS Facility.
· Ensuring the overall smooth operation and contribute to the development of technical and research activities.
· Support with the purchasing and procurement process of tools, machinery and supplies for the Facility.
Position Specific Required Qualifications:
· Background in one of the following: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Environmental/Chemical Engineering (with energy focus) or Physics (with specialization in energy systems or applied experimental physics)
· Experience in research related to renewable energy systems, thermal energy storage, and/or desalination technologies.
· Hands-on experience with experimental facilities, instrumentation, or control systems.

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Institute’s PROTEAS Research Facility of the EEWRC on a full-time basis (100% FTE) for its premises at Pentakomo Campus (Limassol).
The successful candidate is expected to support and research activities within EU-funded projects hosted at the PROTEAS research facility, focusing on concentrated solar power (CSP), thermal energy storage (TES), and polygeneration systems. The work will involve both experimental activities (instrumentation, preparation of the experimental setup, sampling and support on testing) as well as data-oriented tasks (data post-treatment, analysis).
Particularly, the Research Technical Assistant will be engaged in the TransNational Accesses (TNA) activities related to i) operation and optimization of CSP and TES systems, ii) integration of solar energy with desalination and brine treatment processes, and iii) hybrid renewable energy systems and storage technologies.
More specifically the successful candidate will work on TNA activities within the EU funded project RISEnergy. Furthermore, the successful candidate will be involved in tasks such as data collection, performance evaluation of pilot systems and concepts, and support in the development of technical reports.
Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:
· Collection, processing, and analysis of experimental data.
· Support in the preparation of reports, and technical documentation.
· Support in dissemination and outreach activities.
· Daily maintenance of the scientific equipment of the PROTEAS Facility.
· Ensuring the overall smooth operation and contribute to the development of technical and research activities.
· Support with the purchasing and procurement process of tools, machinery and supplies for the Facility.
Position Specific Required Qualifications:
· Background in one of the following: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Environmental/Chemical Engineering (with energy focus) or Physics (with specialization in energy systems or applied experimental physics)
· Experience in research related to renewable energy systems, thermal energy storage, and/or desalination technologies.
· Hands-on experience with experimental facilities, instrumentation, or control systems.

· Excellent presentation skills of scientific and technical results.

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated professional to join the Institute’s Technical Services and Support (TSS) Unit on a full-time basis (100% FTE) for its premises at Athalassa’s Campus.
The successful candidate will hold the position of Senior Research Coordination Officer and be responsible for the day-to-day management of the European Digital Innovation Hub (“DiGiNN EDIH”) project activities.
DiGiNN is implemented by a consortium of several organisations in Cyprus, coordinated by the CyI, that functions as one-stop shop to support the digital transformation of Small and Medium Sized Entreprises and the public sector through the provision of access to technical expertise and experimentation in digital technologies, as well as through financing advice, training, and skills development that are needed for a successful digital transformation. DiGiNN is co-funded by the Digital Europe Programme of the European Commission and the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation, and Digital Policy. The DiGiNN project started its operations in 2022 and will run until 2029.
Under the guidance of the DiGiNN Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of all project activities. This is a hands-on role requiring a proactive individual who can ensure the project's work plan is implemented efficiently, on schedule, and on budget. The Senior Research Coordination Officer serves as the central hub for all operational matters and a key driver for the project's success. They act as the central point of contact for the grant consortium, the European Commission, and any external partners and stakeholders. Therefore, the successful candidate should have excellent project management and interpersonal skills, with strong capacities for generating and maintaining contacts in the business and governmental sectors. Finally, the successful candidate will contribute to the implementation of the DiGiNN project, especially the development and the delivery of services to its customers.
Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:
1. To be responsible for the planning, coordination and monitoring (administrative, financial, technical) of the DiGiNN EU-funded project (timing, reporting, and deliverables) under the guidance provided by the DiGiNN Manager.
2. To contribute to the Key Performance Indicators monitoring, risk management, project output quality control and Data Management Plan.

The successful candidate will hold the position of Senior Research Coordination Officer and be responsible for the day-to-day management of the European Digital Innovation Hub (“DiGiNN EDIH”) project activities.
DiGiNN is implemented by a consortium of several organisations in Cyprus, coordinated by the CyI, that functions as one-stop shop to support the digital transformation of Small and Medium Sized Entreprises and the public sector through the provision of access to technical expertise and experimentation in digital technologies, as well as through financing advice, training, and skills development that are needed for a successful digital transformation. DiGiNN is co-funded by the Digital Europe Programme of the European Commission and the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation, and Digital Policy. The DiGiNN project started its operations in 2022 and will run until 2029.
Under the guidance of the DiGiNN Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of all project activities. This is a hands-on role requiring a proactive individual who can ensure the project's work plan is implemented efficiently, on schedule, and on budget. The Senior Research Coordination Officer serves as the central hub for all operational matters and a key driver for the project's success. They act as the central point of contact for the grant consortium, the European Commission, and any external partners and stakeholders. Therefore, the successful candidate should have excellent project management and interpersonal skills, with strong capacities for generating and maintaining contacts in the business and governmental sectors. · Developing BIM workflows for historic buildings and sites, integrating archival, survey and diagnostic data.

The successful candidate will have an integral contribution to the successful coordination and implementation of the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East Climate Change Initiative (EMME-CCI), providing essential support to the Secretariat and the Coordinating Committee for the execution of key actions.
The Cyprus Climate Change Initiative (CCI), also referred to as the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East Climate Change Initiative (EMME-CCI), is a regional and international effort spearheaded by the Government of the Republic of Cyprus. Its overarching goal is to coordinate actions among EMME countries to comply with the Paris Agreement and mitigate the impacts of climate change in the highly vulnerable region. The initiative, initially launched in March 2019 by the Cyprus government and formally inaugurated by the heads of EMME states at COP27 in November 2022, has recently undergone a "restart". To support the Initiative's continuation, the Initiative's Secretariat is run by The Cyprus Institute.
Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:
· Supports the Secretariat's role as the operational center of the Initiative, contributing to the overall coordination among the Cyprus Institute and the ministries involved.
· Supports the preparation of comprehensive Technical and Financial Progress Reports for internal (e.g., monthly Coordinating Committee meetings) and external engagements (e.g., international forums, ministerial meetings).
· Assists in the preparation, monitoring, and oversight of the budget for all planned activities, ensuring adherence to financial guidelines and effective resource allocation.
· Supports the comprehensive organization and execution of key awareness and dissemination events, including the International Climate Change Conference and ministerial meetings. This involves supporting the management of tender procedures, guest invitations, program development, media dissemination, securing sponsorships, and overseeing all logistical aspects to ensure successful outcomes.
· Provides assistance to the coordinators of all actions of the Initiative i.e. Reactivation of the Scientific Task Forces, Development of Cross-Border Projects, Creation of a Research Alliance in the EMME Region and Awareness and Dissemination campaigns.
Position Preferred Qualifications:
· Master in Sustainable Development, Environmental Studies or any other relevant field will be considered an advantage.
· Knowledge of other languages of the EMME region will be considered as an advantage.

The Cyprus Climate Change Initiative (CCI), also referred to as the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East Climate Change Initiative (EMME-CCI), is a regional and international effort spearheaded by the Government of the Republic of Cyprus. Its overarching goal is to coordinate actions among EMME countries to comply with the Paris Agreement and mitigate the impacts of climate change in the highly vulnerable region. The initiative, initially launched in March 2019 by the Cyprus government and formally inaugurated by the heads of EMME states at COP27 in November 2022, has recently undergone a "restart". To support the Initiative's continuation, the Initiative's Secretariat is run by The Cyprus Institute.
Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:
· Supports the Secretariat's role as the operational center of the Initiative, contributing to the overall coordination among the Cyprus Institute and the ministries involved.
· Supports the preparation of comprehensive Technical and Financial Progress Reports for internal (e.g., monthly Coordinating Committee meetings) and external engagements (e.g., international forums, ministerial meetings).
· Assists in the preparation, monitoring, and oversight of the budget for all planned activities, ensuring adherence to financial guidelines and effective resource allocation.
· Supports the comprehensive organization and execution of key awareness and dissemination events, including the International Climate Change Conference and ministerial meetings. This involves supporting the management of tender procedures, guest invitations, program development, media dissemination, securing sponsorships, and overseeing all logistical aspects to ensure successful outcomes.
· Provides assistance to the coordinators of all actions of the Initiative i.e. Reactivation of the Scientific Task Forces, Development of Cross-Border Projects, Creation of a Research Alliance in the EMME Region and Awareness and Dissemination campaigns.
Position Preferred Qualifications:
· Master in Sustainable Development, Environmental Studies or any other relevant field will be considered an advantage.
· Knowledge of other languages of the EMME region will be considered as an advantage.
· Experience in preparation of projects' reports.

As a team leader, the candidate is expected to play a key role in the successful completion of the QUEST project by developing and leading research projects in Quantum Computing, building and managing their own research group in this field, and strengthening collaborations with the corresponding group at the Center for Quantum Technology and Applications (CQTA) at DESY-Zeuthen in Germany, as well as with other local and international institutions.
As a faculty member of the Cyprus Institute, the selected applicant is intended to enhance the competencies of the Institute in the area of Quantum Computing. The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated Researcher to join the Institute’s EEWRC Centre on a full-time basis (100% FTE) for its premises at Athalassas Campus.
The successful candidate is expected to carry out research on desalination and brine management activities both hardware (experiments) and software (modelling). Moreover, the Post-Doc will be engaged in the current activities of the group related to:
i) Multiple Effect Distillation (MED) process,
ii) Forward Osmosis (FO) process,
iii) brine management and zero liquid discharge (ZLD).
iv) Extraction of valuable minerals from brine
Furthermore, the successful candidate will be involved with modeling activities, related to thermal desalination process, solar powered desalination process, and comparison between other renewable powered desalination processes and methods like PV Reverse Osmosis with solar driven desalination processes.
The successful candidate will be collaborating with project partners in carrying out common research activities, drafting deliverable, organizing and hosting researchers and staff. The candidate is expected to be reporting the findings in ways both appealing to a wider audience (e.g. presentations, conferences, memos), as well as through academic publications / contributions. Some travelling may be required.

Computational Science and Technology is a well-established research area at CyI, and it includes experts in Machine Learning, Computational Modelling, and High-Performance Computing.
The successful candidate will enhance the competencies of the Institute in applied data science, and in particular, in “big data” analytics, data mining, and information/knowledge retrieval. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in applying these areas in scientific and engineering areas, and with experience in the utilization of advanced computing technologies such as HPC and/or cloud computing.
Priority in consideration for hiring will be given to the highest rank where qualified applicants are identified. Applicants should specify for which ranks they want to be considered.
