The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Institute as a Health and Safety Officer in the Operations/Administration Division. The Health and Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring that the Institute adheres to all applicable health and safety regulations whilst also providing support to staff, researchers and faculty managers in their efforts to maintain a safe workplace.

In addition, the successful candidate will be required to support the OHS office with the preparation of inspections, reports, guidelines, establishment of new templates, procedures and revision of the work already done. The candidate must be able to work following the ISO standards 9001, 14001 and 45001.

The initial period of the appointment will be for a fixed-term period with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds. An internationally competitive remuneration package will be offered, which is commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:

  1. Responsible of execution of departmental administrative daily activities including the following:
    1. Maintenance and update of records
    2. Preparation and carrying out correspondence
    3. Handling documentation
  2. Making suggestions for general departmental improvements
  3. Maintain an in-depth understanding of rules and regulations, relevant laws and guidelines that apply to Health and Safety
  4. Liaising with relevant Governmental and non-Governmental departments and authorities for matters relevant to Health and Safety
  5. Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, safety inspections, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed and employees are aware of their responsibilities
  6. Prepare recommendations for prevention and protection measures
  1. Help to develop effective H&S policies and procedures
  2. Ensure the Institute meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting
  3. Ensure the completion and regular review of risk assessments for all lab activities, field works, as well as for the operation of equipment
  4. Ensure that all accidents or near-misses are documented, investigated and recommended improvements are implemented
  1. Support Health and Safety inspections in CyI premises
  2. Support with the organization and implementation of relevant inductions and trainings
  3. Ensure full and accurate health and safety and training records are maintained
  4. Instruct staff in the proper use of equipment and conducts routine tests
  5. Counsel individuals on any personal or domestic problems affecting their work
  6. Promoting and maintaining safety in the work place
  7. Perform related duties and assigned

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a similar field, such as engineering or architecture or related field
  2. Professional Qualification/Accreditation in Occupational Health and Safety
  3. Previous experience in a Health and Safety related position
  4. Excellent IT skills in MS Office and particularly in Excel as well as ability in the use of other software and systems
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of ISO standards 9001, 14001 and 45001
  6. Demonstrated development ability, outstanding organizational and analytical skills
  7. Ability to work under pressure and with short deadlines
  8. Ability to work independently and under supervision
  9. Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities with limited supervision
  10. Excellent command of written and spoken English and Greek
  11. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  12. Ability to adapt to a multicultural/multidisciplinary research environment

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field, will be an advantage
  • NEBOSH or IOSH qualifications will be considered an added value
  • Demonstrated ability to work with CAD programs (AutoCAD, Revit)

    The Cyprus Institute invites here applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Institute as Associate Research Scientist in UAV-based atmospheric observations in the CARE-C Centre of Excellence (https://emme-care.cyi.ac.cy/). 

    Under the Supervision of the CARE-C Director and Head of the Unmanned System Research Laboratory (USRL, http://usrl.cyi.ac.cy), the Associate Research Scientist will coordinate the science-based research activities of USRL. The successful candidate will also have a major contribution to these scientific projects with an aim to provide innovative solutions to perform cost-effective in-situ observations of gas/aerosol using novel UAV-sensor systems. The successful candidate will be working under the Environmental Observations Department of the CARE-C. She/He will be working closely with the USRL technical staff which is composed by a highly qualified team of electronic / mechanical / system engineers and professional pilots. The successful candidate will be responsible in organizing/participating in UAV-based field campaigns (in Cyprus and abroad) and contribute to the overall scientific exploitation of experimental data through dissemination (publications, communications). The candidate will also have the opportunity to engage in teaching activities within the Masters and PhD programs of the CyI (including hands-on / practical lessons). The expectation is that the candidate will further develop her/his research within the Cyprus Institute and contribute to the preparation (and coordination) of competitive national and international (e.g. Horizon Europe) proposals, and supervise young researchers working on these projects.

    The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 24-months with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds.     Required Qualifications

    1. PhD in Eexperimental atmospheric sciences (in-situ and/or remote sensing techniques)

      Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:

      1. Development of novel methods in any of the following: data mining, complex network analysis, machine learning/AI, data-driven computational science.

      3. Writing research papers in collaboration with the PI -- aiming to publish at top-tier conferences and journals.
      4. Presentation of results in conferences and meetings and participation in journal publications.

      Required Qualifications

      1. PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and other related fields of Natural Sciences and Engineering at the time of the appointment. The candidate must hold a PhD degree of a recognized higher education institution before the deadline of the opening. Candidates who have successfully defended their doctoral thesis but who have not yet formally been awarded the doctoral degree will also be considered eligible to apply provided that they can document their successful defense of the thesis.
      2. Publications in any of the following areas: data mining, complex networks, machine learning, AI, data-driven computational science.
      3. 3-year experience (including PhD research)
      4. Proficient programming skills and experience with data analysis and/or maching learning frameworks such as R or PyTorch.
