Our Recruitment Principles

The Recruitment process for new members at all levels and categories of staff reflects the values of the Institute. It has to be consistent with the following principles:

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European Non-profit Science and Technology oriented Educational and Research Institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its five Research Centers: The Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC), the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Center (STARC), the Climate and Atmosphere Research Center (CARE-C) and the Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Center (STeDI-RC). Considerable cross-center interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Institute as a Technical Research specialist in Techno-Economic Modelling for Energy and Climate Policy, with a joint appointment in STeDI-RC and EEWRC. The successful candidate is expected to work on project “ACCREU – Assessing Climate Change Risk in Europe” (www.accreu.eu), which is funded by the Horizon Europe program, and contribute to the implementation of ACCREU through the execution of planned project activities and the preparation of deliverables and other project technical reports under the guidance of the ACCREU Coordinator.

Candidates should have a background in natural sciences, engineering, or applied economics. The successful candidate is expected to support current research at CyI in the further development of the open-source energy systems model OSeMOSYS for EU countries and the simulation of different energy and climate policy scenarios.

The period of the appointment will be for a duration of two years with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds. An internationally competitive remuneration package will be offered, which is commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.

 

Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:

  1. Collaborating closely with ACCREU Consortium Partners for the achievement of project deliverables and milestones, under the guidance of the CyI Coordinator.
  2. Supporting the implementation of the ACCREU project through data analyses, model development, scenario simulations, and impact assessments in energy and climate policy to stay on top of the state of the art in the field.
  3. Communicating project results at all levels, including the academic community, the public at large and decision makers.
  4. Contributing to other general ACCREU project activities (e.g. technical reports, consortium meetings, outreach events)
  1. Collaborating in an interdisciplinary and international research environment.

 

Required Qualifications

  1. Master’s degrees in natural/environmental sciences or engineering or economics/business
  2. Excellent knowledge of English language both verbally and in writing
  3. Knowledge of mathematical methods for energy and/or economic modelling
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to thrive in a multicultural / multidisciplinary research environment
  5. High level of organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  6. Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities with limited supervision

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working experience at international level
  • Good knowledge of EU energy and climate policies
  • Proven experience in the open-source energy modelling software OSEMOSYS or other energy modelling software
  • Experience in applying economic modelling methods (e.g. input-output, macroeconometric or general equilibrium models)
