Our Recruitment Principles

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit science and technology-oriented research and educational institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The Institute’s research agenda is pursued at its five research centers: the Energy Environment Water Research Center (EEWRC), the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Center (STARC), the Climate and Atmosphere Research Center (CARE-C), and the Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Center (STeDI-RC). Considerable cross-center interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.

The Water Department of the Energy Environment and Water Research Center (EEWRC) of The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the team as an Associate Research Scientist for plant-environment interactions in agricultural and natural ecosystems. The Water Department investigates hydrologic and ecosystems processes and tests agro-ecosystems innovations and management practices through field observations, experimental research and modelling, in cooperation with various stakeholders in Cyprus and abroad. The successful candidate will contribute to EU, PRIMA and national funded projects, such as REACT4MED and TERRASAFE and is expected to develop his own research activities and proposals.

The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 2 years with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds. An internationally competitive remuneration package will be offered, which is commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.

 

Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:

  1. Cooperate in the maintenance and implementation of field observations and experiments in agro-ecosystems, taking on leading responsibilities for selected activities
  2. Conduct and support specific research activities tailored to the needs of ongoing projects and research of the Water Department
  1. Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals of high repute, contributing to the academic and practical understanding of plant-environment interactions.
  1. Contribute to the development of new ideas and concepts to advance the frontiers of agro-ecological research
  1. Actively engage in the preparation and submission of grant proposals to secure national and international funding, ensuring the sustainability of research activities
  2. Supervision/mentoring and guidance of Research Assistants and students
  1. Contribute to teaching activities

Required Qualifications

  1. PhD Degree in Agronomy, Plant Sciences, Ecosystem Sciences or a related field
  2. Proven Research and publication track record on Plant-Environment Interactions (minimum 6 publications in Web of Science Indexed journals)
  3. Experience in presenting research results at workshops and conferences.
  4. Track record in contributing to National and European projects.
  5. Experience in preparing Deliverables, technical reports and presentations.
  6. Experience in preparing proposals for national and European Calls.
  7. Proven experience in working with plant and environment sensors in the field and in the laboratory
  8. At least three (3) years of relevant research experience after the PhD degree.
  9. Excellent knowledge of the English language, both verbal and writing
  10. Demonstrated development ability, outstanding organizational, analytical, problem solving and communication skills
  11. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to adopt to a multicultural/multinational environment
  12. Valid Driving license

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in Greek will be considered a strong advantage
