  • Fairness The process has to ensure that every potential candidate has been given the same consideration, and that the choices made by the Institute are based solely on a candidate’s fitness for the position. The same selection criteria will apply to all candidates irrespective of age, nationality, race, religion or gender.
  • Merit The Institute is committed to hiring candidates that best meet the position requirements with potential for development based on objective criteria and will not compromise this commitment for any reason.
  • Consistency The procedures used for the evaluation of all candidates should be the same, and consistent with the expectations formulated for the level of the position to be filled.
  • Thoroughness The evaluation process should ensure that all reasonable steps have been taken to provide sufficient information for a fully informed decision.

Deadline for applications: 15/05/2024

Application process open *

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit Science and Technology oriented Educational and Research Institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its five Research Centres: The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC), the Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC), the Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C), and the Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Centre (STeDI-RC). Considerable cross-centre interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly motivated and qualified individual to join the Institute as a Post-Doctoral Fellow who will be integrated in the Computational Science and Engineering team of CaSToRC. The candidate will pursue research in the context of nationally (RIF) funded project Agrecomposites, focusing on the development of a suite of computational approaches to be used as a decision-support tool for the in-silico design for optimal mechanical performance of polymer nanocomposite materials with bio-origin nanofillers.  The methodology will address challenges arising from the inherent stochastic nature of material properties of both the recycle stream and the biochar inclusion as well as the inherently enormous range of spatiotemporal scales (viscoelastic behavior of the constituents).

The initial appointment is for a fixed-term period of 1 year. Post-Doctoral Fellowships can be renewed depending to performance and availability of funds for a fixed-term period. An internationally competitive remuneration package will be offered, which is commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:

  1. Predictive model based on multi-scale computational modelling of complex nanostructured materials for the mechanical performance of nanofiber mesh layer.
  2. Developing algorithms and codes for simulations/data analytics in engineering applications.
  3. Performing large-scale computations in computational engineering.
  1. Writing proposals for accessing computational resources.

Required Qualifications

  1. PhD degree in Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science or relevant disciplines.
  2. Previous experience in molecular simulations for complex molecular systems.
  3. Previous experience in at least two of the following areas: multi-scale modelling, molecular dynamics, statistical methods, data analytics, and stochastic (Monte Carlo) methods.
  4. Relevant publication record.
  5. Participation in international scientific conferences
  6. Excellent knowledge of statistics and data analytics methods.
  7. Excellent knowledge of programming languages such as C, C++, Fortran90, and Python.
  8. An understanding of High Performance Computing (OpenMP, OpenAcc, MPI, CUDA).
  9. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  10. High-level communication and strong scientific and technical writing skills;
  11. Proficiency in oral and written English
  12. High level of organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
