Our Recruitment Principles

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit, Science- and Technology-oriented Educational and Research Institution, based in Cyprus and governed by an acclaimed Board of Directors. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its five Research Centres, namely:

  1. The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC)
  2. The Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC)
  3. The Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC)
  4. The Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C)
  5. The Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Centre (STeDI-RC)

 

Considerable cross-centre interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s scientific ethos.

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Institute’s Virtual Environments Lab at STARC Centre on a full-time basis (100% FTE) for its premises at Athalassa Campus.

The successful candidate will primarily work in the Biodiversity & Green in Mediterranean Historic Cities (B_Green) project funded by the Driving Urban Transitions Partnership (https://dutpartnership.eu/).

The successful candidate will be responsible for the support of the contribution of the Virtual Environments Lab to the project which involves the creation of a digital space for the project indicators to be applied and accessed in demonstrator historical centres. Specifically, the Virtual Environments Lab team will develop an online platform with visualisation features and a content database. The candidate will collaborate with web developers to support data collection, processing, transformation, digital tools’ development, including setting up user evaluation sessions.

Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:

  1. Provide support in GIS modeling and data visualisation.
  2. Provide support in conducting data collection and GIS analysis related to urban modelling and environmental data visualisation.
  3. Assist in stakeholder engagement, participating in meetings and workshops to help in collecting stakeholders’ knowledge.
  4. Assist in the development of innovation frameworks, such as living labs to connect stakeholders around a common strategy and action plan.
  5. Help in preparing project reports, contributing to scientific publications.
  6. Actively participate in an interdisciplinary and international research team.
  7. Technical support of the Virtual Environments Lab.

Position Specific Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in urban modeling and visualisation related fields such as Geography or Architecture or Computational Landscape design and Ecology.
  • Experience in design and/or the development of digital platforms and modelling of environmental data, urban modeling, and visualisation (such as: GIS webservices, urban ecosystem modelling).
  • Experience in R&I projects and deliverables.
  • Academic paper writing.
  • 1-year relevant experience
  • Relevant experience with environmental data
  • Good analytical and research skills
  • Relevant experience with urban modeling
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language, both verbal and writing
  • Demonstrated development ability, outstanding organizational, analytical, problem solving and communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to adopt to a multicultural/multinational environment

 

Position Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical digital skills

Duration of appointment:

The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 24 months with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds.

 

Remuneration details:

Salary Band: CYI3(1-14)

Position’s Starting Salary: CYI3.1 - €30323.41
