Our Recruitment Principles

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit, Science- and Technology-oriented Educational and Research Institution, based in Cyprus and governed by an acclaimed Board of Directors. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its five Research Centres, namely:

1.       The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC)

2.       The Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC)

3.       The Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC)

4.       The Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C)  

5.       The Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Centre (STeDI-RC)

 

Considerable cross-centre interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s scientific ethos.

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated Research Engineer to join the Institute’s CaSToRC Centre on a full-time basis for its premises at Athalassas Campus.

 

The successful candidate will be working for the TensorICE project and will contribute to the development of novel machine learning algorithms and models that leverage tensor methods to produce efficient, interpretable, and controllable multimodal foundation models (including e.g., multimodal large language models, MLLMs).

Besides the CyI, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with foreign research partners that include the Archimedes Unit at the Athena Research Center in Greece, and Imperial College London, UK.

The rank of the position will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and experience (Junior Specialised Research Technical Scientist or Specialised Research Technical Scientist as per relevant job descriptions).

Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:

1.       Develop novel deep learning algorithms that result in efficient, interpretable, and controllable multimodal foundation models (e.g., Multimodal LLMs)

2.       Evaluate the downstream performance of resulting models and algorithms in terms of interpretability, steering, efficiency, and downstream task accuracy/reconstruction

Position Specific Required Qualifications:

·       Bachelor degree (as per JDs) in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or related field

·       Proficiency in programming languages (preferably Python)

·       Knowledge and use of deep learning frameworks (PyTorch preferred, TensorFlow)

·       Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team

·       Experience in implementing and training deep learning models

 

Position Preferred Qualifications:

·       Experience in training and/or evaluating multimodal learning and foundation models

·       Knowledge in one or more of the following: interpretability in deep learning, steering/control of deep learning models, efficient deep learning

·       Experience with tensor methods and their applications in machine learning

Duration of appointment:

The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 12 months with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds.

 

Remuneration details:

Salary Band: CYI3(1-14) for Junior Specialised RTS and CYI4(1-11) for Specialised RTS

Position’s Starting Salary: CYI3.1 - €30323.41 for Junior Specialised RTS and CYI4.1 - €37641.89 for Specialised RTS
