Our Recruitment Principles

The Recruitment process for new members at all levels and categories of staff reflects the values of the Institute. It has to be consistent with the following principles:

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit, Science- and Technology-oriented Educational and Research Institution, based in Cyprus and governed by an acclaimed Board of Directors. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its five Research Centres, namely:

1.      The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC)

2.      The Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC)

3.      The Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC)

4.      The Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C)  

5.      The Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Centre (STeDI-RC)

 

Considerable cross-centre interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s scientific ethos.

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated Researcher to join the Institute’s EEWRC Water Department on a full-time basis (100% FTE) for its premises at Athalassas Campus.

The Water Department investigates hydrologic and ecosystems processes and tests agro-ecosystems innovations and management practices through field observations, experimental research and modelling, in cooperation with various stakeholders in Cyprus and abroad.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the Horizon Europe Soil Mission projects of the Water Department, with a special focus on the EUROSION Project ("European Soil Erosion Monitoring and Modelling Network for Sustainable Agricultural Land Management"). This project is a cooperation of 24 research partners from EU and associated countries, coordinated by Wageningen University. In the framework of the EUROSION project we will establish long-term wind and water erosion monitoring nodes in Cyprus.

Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:

·        Set up and maintain an European wind erosion monitoring node in Cyprus (sediment traps, saltiphone, saltation sensors, dust emission flux sensors, soil moisture sensors, 2D sonic anemometers, meteorological sensors)

·        Sediment, soil and vegetation sampling and laboratory analysis

·        Support water erosion monitoring activities

Position Specific Required Qualifications:

·        PhD in Earth, Environmental, or Agricultural Sciences

·        Proven experience in experimental field research on wind or water erosion

·        Proven experience in soil laboratory analysis

·        Proven experience in processing and analyzing large datasets

·        Driver's license

Position Preferred Qualifications:

·        Excellent knowledge in statistical design and analysis

·        Skills in programming (e.g., R, Python, Javascript, C, Fortran)

·        Spatial analysis and GIS skills (ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth Engine)

Duration of appointment:

The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 36 months with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds.

 

Remuneration details:

Salary Band: CYI4(1-9)

Position’s Starting Salary: CYI4.1 - €37641.89, CYI4.2 - 39457.60, CYI4.3 - 41273.31, CYI4.4 - 43089.02
