We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for a Wine Host to join our team at our brand-new winery. As a Wine Host, you will be an integral part of bringing that experience to life.
The ideal candidate will be a true wine connoisseur with an infectious enthusiasm for sharing their knowledge with others. You will be responsible for creating an unforgettable experience for our guests, providing them with the ultimate wine tasting journey. You will be an ambassador for our brand, ensuring that every guest feels welcome, comfortable, and well-cared for.
Responsibilities:
- Greet and welcome guests upon arrival and provide a brief introduction to our winery and wine offerings.
- Conduct wine tastings according to Marathasa Wines protocol and guide guests through the tasting experience, sharing your knowledge of wine, the winemaking process, and the history of our winery.
- Provide recommendations on wine and food pairings, based on the guest's preferences and taste profile.
- Promoting sales of wines and wine gifts to guests.
- Encouraging guests to sign up to the Wine Club.
- Maintain a clean and organized tasting room and ensure that all guests receive prompt and attentive service.
- Assist in event planning, such as private tastings, dinners, and tours.
- Be able to manage and maintain stock and inventory of wines in the tasting room.
- Opportunity to get involved in the vineyards and/or winemaking, dependant on experience.
Requirements:
- Passion for wine and the wine industry.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Knowledge of winemaking, wine regions, grape varieties, and wine styles.
- Educated to at least WST Level2 or equivalent (further training provided)
- Driving license

Duties And Responsibilities:
- Assisting guests with the selection of wine from the wine lists
- Making recommendations to guests on food and wine pairing
- Communicating enthusiastically, accurately, and knowledgeably about the wine, vineyards and winery to guests
- Serving wine correctly (e.g. in accordance with the Court of Master Sommeliers' standard of service)
- Serving all other beverages at the correct temperature and in the correct manner
- Lay tables and prepare equipment for use.
- Clean glassware and other equipment such as trolleys, decanters, ice buckets, coasters, and bottle holders.
- Preparing customers' bills
- Foodservice to accompany the wine
- Assisting with other front-of-house tasks
- Supporting events at the winery

Key Responsibilities
- Lead all winemaking operations from grape reception to bottle, ensuring consistent premium quality across all labels
- Oversee harvest planning, fermentation management, blending decisions, maturation and bottling
- Collaborate closely with vineyard management to optimise grape quality and vineyard development
- Drive innovation through small-batch projects, experimentation, and continual improvement
- Manage and mentor the cellar team, fostering a culture of excellence, learning and safety
- Maintain rigorous quality control, hygiene and regulatory compliance

- Support growth initiatives including new vineyard acquisitions and future product development

Candidate Profile
- Experience in a winemaking role is preferred within a premium wine environment
- Technical knowledge across a range of winemaking styles, with sensitivity to terroir-driven wines
- Leadership experience is preferred, with the ability to inspire and develop teams
- Practical, hands-on approach, combined with strategic thinking
- Comfortable working in a collaborative family-owned business environment

Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or formal training in oenology, viticulture or a related field (or equivalent professional experience) preferred
- Several vintages as a winemaker or junior winemaker in a premium wine environment
- Good understanding of fermentation science, cellar practices and sensory evaluation
- Forklift certification or willingness to obtain one
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, especially during harvest
- Working internationally is welcome but not required
- Professional working proficiency in spoken and written English required; Greek and additional languages are an advantage
- Valid driving licence and willingness to be based in Cyprus
