Job Description:

An exciting opportunity to join our team with exposure to the entire winemaking process. The successful candidate will receive full training on all equipment and processes. This role requires a blend of hands-on and managerial skills, laboratory skills, attention to detail, and physical activity. They will be responsible for maintaining quality, organization, and execution of winemaking activities, involving both winery and vineyard work, as well as administrative duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform cellar operations: harvest, fermentation monitoring, barrel work, bottling preparation, and sanitation.

  • Write work orders, supervise and train employees during harvest.

Overview

Marathasa Wines is seeking a dedicated Production Assistant to join our small winemaking team. This role encompasses various aspects of production, with a strong emphasis on vineyard work. The ideal candidate will exhibit meticulous commitment to our standards, performing both technically skilled and physically demanding tasks.

Responsibilities

Vineyard Duties:

  • Perform essential vineyard tasks such as trellis maintenance, pruning, leaf removal, shoot thinning, cluster thinning, and weed management.

Cellar Duties:

  • Assist with vineyard sampling, fruit sorting, fermentation monitoring, winery sanitation, wine movements, barrel filling, and bottling.
  • Commit to long hours, including overtime and weekends during harvest.

Qualifications

  • Ability to follow procedures and safety protocols
  • Flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays (during harvest)
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25kg
  • Able to perform physically demanding tasks outdoors
  • Manual dexterity for using hand tools

Vineyard Foreman/ Team leader

Marathasa Wines is a family-owned Winery at Kalopanayiotis, Marathasa. We are producing premium wines, exclusively from our own vineyards in the vicinity of the winery. We grow 10 cultivars, on an area of 13ha of steep, high altitude vineyards. We are looking for an committed and experienced team leader.

Job Description:

Key Roles and Responsibilities

The Foreman will follow the instructions of the Winemaker / Agronomist and will be in charge of a team of 5-6, plus seasonal workers. They will:

  • Follow written instructions regarding vineyard operations such as:
    • Plant protection treatments
    • Irrigation / fertigation
    • Bud removal, shoot thinning, canopy management
    • Manage cover crops and weeds
  • Manage work flow and scheduling
  • Keep records of the operations, maintain traceability
  • Lead the team of vineyard workers;
    • ensuring they are trained and follow the correct processes
    • supervising their work
    • managing their performance
  • Assess the needs for seasonal workers
  • Keep stock of necessary materials, such as fungicides, pesticides, fertilisers etc.
  • Keep track of equipment maintenance

 

Essential Skills and Qualities

Experience in leading, supervising and managing a team (5-6 people plus extra seasonal workers)

Able to follow protocols and instructions

Job Description:

We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for a Wine Host to join our team at our brand-new winery. As a Wine Host, you will be an integral part of bringing that experience to life.

The ideal candidate will be a true wine connoisseur with an infectious enthusiasm for sharing their knowledge with others. You will be responsible for creating an unforgettable experience for our guests, providing them with the ultimate wine tasting journey. You will be an ambassador for our brand, ensuring that every guest feels welcome, comfortable, and well-cared for.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet and welcome guests upon arrival and provide a brief introduction to our winery and wine offerings.
  • Conduct wine tastings according to Marathasa Wines protocol and guide guests through the tasting experience, sharing your knowledge of wine, the winemaking process, and the history of our winery.
  • Provide recommendations on wine and food pairings, based on the guest's preferences and taste profile.
  • Promoting sales of wines and wine gifts to guests.
  • Encouraging guests to sign up to the Wine Club.
  • Maintain a clean and organized tasting room and ensure that all guests receive prompt and attentive service.
  • Assist in event planning, such as private tastings, dinners, and tours.
  • Be able to manage and maintain stock and inventory of wines in the tasting room.
  • Opportunity to get involved in the vineyards and/or winemaking, dependant on experience.

Requirements:

  • Passion for wine and the wine industry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Knowledge of winemaking, wine regions, grape varieties, and wine styles.
  • Educated to at least WST Level2 or equivalent (further training provided)
  • Driving license
  • Able to follow guidance.

Wine Waiter

Job Description:

Marathasa Wines is looking for an organized and friendly person for the position of Wine Waiter to join our team at our brand-new winery at the Marathasa Valley.

Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Assisting guests with the selection of wine from the wine lists
  • Making recommendations to guests on food and wine pairing
  • Communicating enthusiastically, accurately, and knowledgeably about the wine, vineyards and winery to guests
  • Serving wine correctly (e.g. in accordance with the Court of Master Sommeliers' standard of service)
  • Serving all other beverages at the correct temperature and in the correct manner
  • Lay tables and prepare equipment for use.
  • Clean glassware and other equipment such as trolleys, decanters, ice buckets, coasters, and bottle holders.
  • Preparing customers' bills
  • Foodservice to accompany the wine
  • Assisting with other front-of-house tasks
  • Supporting events at the winery
  • Promoting sales of wine and wine gifts to guests
  • Encouraging guests to sign up to the Wine Club
  • Opportunity to assist with the delivery of wine-tasting sessions according to Marathasa Wines protocol, dependent on experience and level of training

Personal Qualities and Qualifications:

  • Proven background in hospitality (bar or restaurant)
  • Demonstrable development of your knowledge of wine, e.g. WSET Level 1 or higher, Introductory Certificate of the Court of Master Sommeliers or higher
  • Respect for company policies and procedures and able to follow guidance
  • High standards of health and hygiene
  • Good spoken English and Greek
