The position

The successful candidate will be expected, amongst other, of:

  • Providing legal advice to international and Cyprus clients on EU and Cyprus law matters.
  • Appearing before the Cyprus courts and dealing with the full spectrum of court hearings of civil nature.
  • Drafting of litigation court documents, legal opinions, contracts and other legal documents.
  • Good knowledge of the justice platform.
  • Guiding administrators and personnel under the Litigation department and ensuring their compliance with internal rules and policies.
  • Attending meetings and escorting clients to meetings, court, migration or any other government institution when required.
  • Attending seminars and conferences organized by our international network of law firms when requested by the employer.
  • Maintaining good relationships with clients and/or agents and/or associates locally and abroad.
  • Travelling abroad for the furtherance of the goals of the firm.
  • All other duties a lawyer is allowed to do under Chapter 2. Article 2(1).

Requirements:

  • University degree in Law (LLB) with at least Upper Second Class Honours.
  • Postgraduate Degree.
  • Member of the Cyprus Bar Association.
  • At least 5 years of relevant working experience (preferably not in criminal law)
  • Excellent command of the English and Greek languages, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to multitask, work efficiently, follow procedures, and use critical judgment.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Interested in working as part of a dedicated team and being able to participate in teamwork.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High professional standards and work ethics.
  • Delivering the Litigation Tasks without any guidance and supervision.

Our Graduate Training Programme

We have designed the Graduate Training Programme to ensure our graduates obtain the necessary professional and academic qualifications whilst ensuring that they obtain a wide range of practical experience by working with our teams, liaising directly with clients and regulators, working as part of a team and under the supervision and guidance of a team leader.

The Programme runs in all Group locations and across Group Companies, lasts 30 months and on successful completion our graduates will become qualified Consultants. The Programme aptly prepares graduates for a career as a Governance, Risk and Compliance consultant or as an Internal Auditor or as a Risk Management Consultant or as Licensing Consultant in the global financial services industry.

Being a graduate trainee

Being a graduate trainee involves playing an active part in MAP S.Platis Group client services team, which will include research, writing and presentation skills, liaising with and responding to clients, regulators and other stakeholders.

In order to develop your knowledge and skills, you will be expected to complete a range of academic and professional training courses, including qualifications.

  • The role includes implementing compliance frameworks at newly authorised firms and reviewing existing frameworks in established firms as well as visiting both new and existing clients regularly (face to face and virtually) to review their compliance arrangements, discuss areas of regulatory concern and assist with problem solving. During your training, you will be under the supervision of a unit supervisor and will be buddied up with a more experienced consultant.
  • The role will require you to be able to present opinions, conclusions and findings in a clear and concise manner (orally and in writing) to Group staff and external stakeholders at various levels of seniority.
  • You will be expected to be an active participant in the marketing and business development of the firm in order to contribute to the continued success and development of our Group and our service offerings.

Requirements

  • We are looking for individuals with strong intellect and a strong academic record. High 2:1 or First-Class honours Degree or equivalent or up to 3-years’ experience working in a CySEC regulated business, financial services consultancy or the legal industry. We will also consider high quality applicants with experience in other professional services firms.
  • Any relevant work experience in a corporate environment or the financial services sector would be an advantage.
  • Team spirit, good problem-solving abilities and willingness to study and develop.
  • Dynamism and ability to deliver results in a timely manner.
  • Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with impact.

This Role in a Nutshell

The successful candidates will play an active role in liaising directly with our UK clients on regulatory issues, providing guidance and advice, and drafting materials such as compliance manuals and policies. The role also involves assisting firms seeking FCA authorisation or variation of permission. In addition, will provide compliance monitoring services, revise policies, registers etc, and discuss how business updates may affect clients from a regulatory perspective.

What Does Your Role Specifically Involve?

  • The role is a management role, and it involves playing an active part in the client services team which includes liaising directly with clients, managing teams of consultants, providing advice and drafting materials.
  • The role includes working with firms seeking authorisation with the FCA and assisting them with drafting the business plan, financial projections and tailoring a comprehensive set of compliance documents (including Compliance Monitoring Programmes, policies, registers)
  • The role involves communication with FCA authorised firms on a periodic basis to review the compliance monitoring undertaken and policies, registers etc, discuss business updates and how regulatory changes may impact the firm. There may also be discussions regarding any regulatory concerns the client may have and assist with problem solving. A formal report for the client’s senior management follows.
  • The role requires the individual to be able to present opinions and findings in a clear and concise manner to both staff and our client’s stakeholders at different levels of seniority. Presentations may need to be made orally or in writing.
  • The successful candidate may be asked to draft and present compliance training to clients, including board briefings.
  • The individual will be expected to be an active participant in the marketing and business development of the firm in order to contribute to the continued success and development of the company and its service offerings.

  • Excellent working knowledge of the FCA, its objectives and the FCA Handbook.
  • At least 5 years proven relevant experience as an SMF16 in a regulated environment in the financial services sector, or regulatory consulting experience in a UK legal or other relevant professional services firm.

On behalf of MAP S.Platis, the leading financial services consultancy Group in the region, we are seeking to recruit a Consultant for its Limassol-based Internal Audit team focused on Regulatory Compliance audits of CIFs and other regulated entities.

This Role in a Nutshell

The successful candidate will assess the existence of policies and procedures of the regulated entities, analyse the client’s data/information and review plans for Internal Audit Inspections and produce assessments and IA reports.

What Does Your Role Specifically Involve?

  • Assess the existence of policies and operational procedures of the CIFs as required by the relevant legislation on compliance-related topics and regulatory frameworks relevant to AML/Know Your Client (KYC), MiFiD2, Safekeeping/ Safeguarding Clients funds/assets, Capital Adequacy, Own Funds, EMIR, Funds, Fund managers, Payment Service Providers, ASPs, etc.
  • Analyse Client’s data/information and review/finalise plans for the undertaking of Internal Audit (IA) Inspections relevant to the above subject matters amongst others. Act as part of their lead an IA team during annual and/or extraordinary IA Investigations. Inspect the systems and premises of CIFs, interview key personnel, collect and analyse evidence.
  • Undertake qualitative and quantitative assessments of findings and produce IA Reports with major findings/weaknesses along with recommendations on areas that need improvement to the Senior Management and the Board of Directors of CIFs; whilst indicating the level of risk associated with each finding relating to the probability of occurrence and potential impact.
  • Undertake sample checks on the application of accounting principles by the CIFs whilst assessing the implementation of provisions of Laws and regulations pertaining to the Safeguarding of Clients’ assets/funds. Perform sample checks of Client funds reconciliation procedures of CIFs.
  • Assess and analyse the impact of new/upcoming legislation on the CIFs and perform relevant changes to IA plans
  • Communicate effectively with IA personnel and with personnel and management of CIFs

Here Are Our Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Risk Management, or any other related discipline from a reputable University.
  • At least 4 years of experience in the financial services sector (e.g. Compliance Officer in CIFs, other consultancy firm, or relevant) and specifically on relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g. AML, MiFiD2, etc).
  • Excellent command of the English and Greek languages, both verbal and written
  • Team spirit, excellent problem-solving abilities and willingness to study and develop
  • Dynamism and ability to deliver results in a timely manner. Time and effort management skills whilst retaining diligence and attention to detail.
  • Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate with impact
  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel)

We’d Also Love to See:

  • CySEC Advanced Certificate for the provision of investment services.
  • Any relevant work experience within an Accounting and Finance department of a CIF (and thus familiarity with safeguarding, capital adequacy matters, etc.)
  • Qualified or partially qualified Accountant status.

  • Support Senior Consultants with onsite and desk-based inspections on regulatory compliance matters.
  • Ensure investment firms fulfil their annual obligations and licence conditions.
  • Provide advice and solutions to investment firms on regulatory compliance queries/issues.
  • Provide support to the compliance expert team, help to coordinate with other departments (legal & corporate, accounting & tax, capital adequacy, internal audit etc.) and develop strong working relationships.

The candidates should be able to demonstrate

  • Some knowledge in regulatory frameworks, such as AML, KYC, MiFiD, EMIR etc.
  • Active interest in relevant regulatory standards and best practice trends.
  • Knowledge of the financial services sector, gained ideally from working in corporate environments.
