The Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payments Operations Manager (Safeguarding & Client Services) to oversee the day-to-day safeguarding, reconciliation, and client support activities within ISX’s Treasury and Payment Operations function.
Reporting to the Head of Payment Operations, you will ensure client funds are safeguarded, reconciliations are completed accurately, and payments are executed efficiently and in compliance with regulatory standards. You will also act as a key contact for client onboarding and operational support, collaborating closely with Sales, Compliance, and Finance teams.
Responsibilities
Safeguarding Oversight
- Manage daily safeguarding processes ensuring client funds are correctly segregated and reconciled across all ISX entities.
- Review daily safeguarding reconciliations between client accounts, scheme settlements, and safeguarding bank accounts.
- Investigate and resolve reconciliation differences, escalating material issues promptly.
- Maintain safeguarding policies and procedures aligned to EU EMI/PI regulatory frameworks.
- Support audits, inspections, and regulatory reports related to safeguarded funds.
- Contribute to system and process improvements that optimise and strengthen safeguarding controls and automation.
- Identify, develop and implement new processes and controls to support the safeguarding requirements of the firm.
Issuing & Acquiring Reconciliations
- Oversee daily, weekly and monthly reconciliations and settlements for the card issuing service and acquiring customers.
- Work closely with Finance and Product teams to ensure end-to-end integrity of settlement flows.
- Investigate breaks and ensure full traceability between scheme, client, and safeguarding accounts.
- Drive reconciliation automation and continuous improvement initiatives.
Client Support & Onboarding
- Collaborate with Client Onboarding and Relationship Management teams to ensure proper client funding setup and safeguarding alignment.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for client queries on funding, settlements, and payouts.
- Provide accurate, timely information on balances, settlements, and reconciliation outcomes.
- Support Sales and Client Relationship teams with onboarding and ongoing operational queries.
- Recommend enhancements to client fund flows to improve efficiency and compliance.
Operational Support & Governance
- Maintain treasury and payments policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and control frameworks.
- Support the Head of Payment Operations in liquidity monitoring and daily funding management.
- Prepare management reports on reconciliations, payment execution, and client service status.
- Contribute to internal and external audits, providing required documentation and evidence.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects across payments, safeguarding, and reconciliation systems.
- Provide input and participate in the scoping and testing of new products delivered by the firm.
Leadership & Development
- Lead and mentor a team of 3 covering Safeguarding, Reconciliation, and Client Support.
- Ensure consistent application of controls, procedures, and performance standards.
- Promote a culture of ownership, accuracy, and service excellence.
- Support staff development through feedback, coaching, and structured growth plans.
Requirements
- 5 years’+ experience in payment operations, treasury, or finance within a regulated EMI, bank, or fintech.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding of client funds, reconciliation, and payment execution controls.
- Experience in card issuing/acquiring reconciliations and scheme settlement processes.
- Familiar with EMD2, PSD2, CASS, or similar safeguarding regulations.
- Excellent communicator, able to manage internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
