Role Overview:

As the Financial Accountant, you will play a vital role in maintaining the financial integrity of our operations. You will be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting activities, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, ensuring compliance with client money regulations and supporting the finance team with various reporting and reconciliation tasks.

We are seeking a recently qualified accountant looking for their first move from practice and embark on their career in financial services and take on the exciting challenges of this dynamic industry. This position is ideal for someone eager to develop their expertise in a regulated environment, with hands-on experience in financial operations, safeguarding client assets, and more.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded in the company's accounting systems, maintaining the integrity of financial data.
  • Perform regular reconciliations of safeguarded client funds to ensure compliance with client money regulations and internal policies including investigating and solving unexplained movements.
  • Participate in the month-end close process ensuring accurate and timely closing of the books for monthly and annual reporting
  • Preparing and posting journals to the ledger and performing analytic reviews as part of month-end
  • Manage the accounts payable and receivable processes, including processing invoices, making payments, invoicing customers, monitoring payments, and following up on overdue accounts.
  • Manage the processing of employee expense claims, ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Manage the preparation and processing of payroll, ensuring accuracy and timely payment to employees.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register, including recording acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation calculations.
  • Assist in reconciling intercompany transactions and balances to ensure consistency across group
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of VAT returns, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.
  • Support the preparation of external financial reports, ensuring they are completed accurately and in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with internal, external and safeguarding audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Proactively identify areas for process improvement within the finance function and contribute to the development of more efficient workflows.
  • Support the finance team with various ad hoc tasks as required.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Recently qualified with ACA or ACCA – this will likely be your first role out of practice
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
  • Strong analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A self-starter who is eager to learn and grow within the financial services industry.
  • Strong time management and multi-tasking skills with propensity to take the initiative.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with different departments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with Xero accounting software is a plus.
