Civils Supervisor

To act as a supervisor to squads and operatives and make day-to-day decisions relating to the efficient operations on site.

 

Main tasks:

  • Ensure works are carried out in accordance with quality and guidelines as required.
  • Ensure Plant and tools are operated and maintained safely and correctly by yourself and others.
  • Through pro-active, hands-on leadership, drive progress on site.
  • Demonstrate how to perform operations on site.
  • Delegate tasks to the appropriate member of their team.
  • Supervise and monitor all personnel on site: employees, agency workers, subcontractors and any other non-employees and allocate work as appropriate.
  • To ensure quality control of all work carried out on site.
  • Carry out and write risk assessments for each site and each stage of development daily.
  • Complete daily diary – record labour plant and material use.
  • Assist as appropriate labouring work including digging, paving, drainage and concreting, etc.
  • Ensure that all materials and plant are available for use as required and maintained and serviced by users and providers.

Essential Criteria

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence, persuade, guide and motivate others.
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills.
  • In-depth, hands-on experience of Civils groundworks
  • Able to delegate tasks and ensure compliance with instruction
  • Able to communicate/coordinate with clients representatives as needed.
  • Willing to operate appropriate site plant and have/train for certification as required-e.g.
  • Dumper/roller/excavator/
  • IT Competent -smart phone/tablet familiar

Qualifications

  • CSCS Card
  • Driver’s license
  • SMSTS – or undertake appropriate training

 


Grounds Maintenance Operative

CHAP Group are looking for a motivated individual to carry out grounds maintenance and gardening, as well as other general duties.

Main tasks:

  • Carry out all grounds maintenance and gardening requirements around site, including seasonally required tasks e.g cutting and strimming grass during summer months, as instructed.
  • Ensure machinery is kept in clean and working order and that routine checks and maintenance are undertaken.
  • Report any issues with machinery and ensure repairs are carried out in an acceptable timescale.
  • Winter call-outs to cover gritting and snow clearing from 1st November to 31st March on a rota basis.
  • To assist vermin control specialists during their visits (rabbit shoots & monthly vermin activity checks).
  • To assist Chap civil operatives at St Fergus. Also assist Chap civils personnel on other sites if required during the not so busy periods at St Fergus.
  • To always attempt to improve on existing standards of work.
  • Any other tasks/duties that may be reasonably requested by management.

Qualifications

  • Full Driving Licence for UK
  • CSCS/CPCS qualification – preferred

Competencies

Essential Criteria:

  • Knowledge and experience of grass cutting using commercial horticultural machinery.
  • Able to undertake manual handling tasks, including but not limited to:  grass cutting with ride on mower and hand-held mower, strimming quite substantial areas of rough vegetation, operating horticultural and winter call-out machinery and equipment, general gardening and grounds maintenance tasks.
  •  General civils operative duties to assist the maintenance team with general maintenance around the site, eg general labouring. 
  • Able to use own initiative to undertake daily duties with minimal supervision.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Knowledge and experience of routine maintenance of horticultural grass cutting machinery and other related equipment/machinery.
  • Previous basic practical gardening experience eg maintaining flower beds and shrubs.

 


Plant & Transport Manager

Job Purpose

Primary responsibility is to oversee and manage the plant equipment and transportation fleet within all areas of the Company (both internal and externally hired) to ensure the efficient and safe operation of all plant machinery and vehicles, while optimising use, minimising downtime and maintaining compliance with relevant regulations. The role involves coordinating with various teams, including project/contracts managers, maintenance staff and drivers, to support construction projects and ensure the timely delivery of equipment and materials.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  Develop and implement comprehensive strategies for managing and maintaining plant   equipment,            including heavy machinery, tools, and specialised construction equipment.

   Plan and execute preventive maintenance schedules, inspections, and repairs to ensure  optimal               performance and longevity of equipment.

  Source and order plant and transport in liaison with Procurement department.

   Participate in the purchase of plant and transport items as required.

   Arrange for delivery of plant/transport/equipment to site, monitor usage, arrange for return off                 site/off hire and inspect as appropriate.

    Maintain accurate records and reports for all plant and transport.

    Maintain accurate records of fleet inventory, registrations, licenses, and insurance documentation.

     Organise LOLER examinations.

      Inspecting harnesses & lanyards before issue and on return.

      Approving plant and transport invoices as required.

     Coordinate with suppliers and vendors for the procurement of plant machinery, spare parts, and                 maintenance services.

Qualifications & Competencies

  •  Driving licence - essential, preferably clean.
  •  Have, or be willing to work toward attaining, a Transport Manager CPC qualification.
  •  Proven experience in plant and fleet management within the construction industry.
  •  Strong knowledge of construction plant machinery, equipment, and transportation operations
  •  Proficiency in using computerised maintenance management systems and fleet management       software.
  •  Good working knowledge and experience of Stores and Yard operations.
  •  Excellent organisational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  •  Effective verbal and written communication in English and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams.

 


Estimating Assistant

Job Purpose

CHAP Group are looking for an Estimating Assistant to assist with tender submissions and general administrative workload within the Estimating Department.

 

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

Download tender documentation and allocate tender number.

Inputting bills of quantities into Causeway estimating software (software training will be provided).

Issuing subcontract and supplier enquiries via EstimateOne.

Filing and distribution of tender revisions, Q&As etc.

Filing quotes received and inputting into Causeway estimating software.

Co-ordination of tender queries.

Assist with preparation of tender adjudication documentation.

Assist with tender submission documentation e.g. tender letters, bills of quantities etc

Managing supply chain database.

Assist with updating tender registers and reports.

Assist with producing handover documentation for successful projects.

 

Qualifications & Competencies

Essential

National 4/Standard Grade level 3 or above, or equivalent qualification in Maths and English.

Strong administration skills.

Demonstrate ability to work independently and to participate fully as a team member.

Demonstrate excellent time management and prioritisation skills.

Computer Literacy, including proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office & Excel.

Good attention to detail.

Good spoken and written communication skills.

Work to strict deadlines and able to prioritise tasks.

Desirable

Qualification in business administration.

Excavator Operator
